Illuminating Geometry Children’s Workshop

Jenny Dockett little lanterns

Location: Seventeen, S2 on the Festival Map

Join Spectra festival artist in residence Jenny Dockett to make your own stunning lantern.

Illuminating Geometry is a workshop that has been to national Maker Faires, the Orkney Science Festival and the Abu Dhabi Science Festival amongst other events. We are delighted to bring Illuminating Geometry to Aberdeen as part of Spectra 2017.

Learn how to make a paper lantern in the shape of one of the “platonic solids” and illuminate it with an LED. They are the only 3D objects that can be made by repeating a single 2D shape over and over again. The ancient Greek Philosophers were puzzled by why there are only five 3D objects which can be made in that way.

Open to children and adults of all ages. Choose from a simple 4 sided tetrahedron, a cube, octahedron, dodecahedron. Or accept the challenge of creating the complex 20 sided icosahedron!
